[edit] Introduction

The FTA Community Portal (CP) is an open space designed to let anyone, even non enrolled users, to actively participate in the Academy life taking place in our virtual community.

Anyone can:

  1. create their own profile,
  2. tell about their own experience to others,
  3. customize his/her dashboard of work,
  4. communicate with others and participate in groups,
  5. create new groups to engage others to create new contents, discuss certain issue or other acivity related with the FTA universe

In this brief guide we will guide you and provide tips to help you to feel confortable with the CP. We also invite you to improve this document, as this is just another communal resource of the community you just joined in.

[edit] First steps

If you still dont have your own user in the FTA platform, is time you register in. To do so, go into the this link, where you will find a form similar to the one shown in Figure 1.

Tip!

Once you have your FTA account, you can easily login into the system from the FTA frontpage login access. Just complete the fields with your user and password and you are in!.

Complete the fields with your personal information. This data will be used in your Campus identity and also in the CP space.

After your login in the FTA Platform, you will be redirected to the FTA Campus. In that page, you got access to the different subportals, such as the FTA Community Portal. You will find the link to the CP in the Main Menu.

Once you are logged in the platform, you will see the common frontpage of the community that shows the latest updates and actions that tooks place in the CP.

You should see something similar to the Figure:

Many communication features are accessed through the "Tools" menu in the top bar. For example, you can upload Files, or post to The Wire.

This section can be used for Frequently Asked Questions and there answers.

Q: How can I become a member of a group?
A: At the left of the page you find a button "Join group". Press this button and go back to the same discussion. Now you should see a "Leave this group" button on the place where previously the "Join group" was.

Q: How can I answer on a discussion in a group?
A: Be sure you are already a member of the group. Go to the desired discussion. At he bottom of the discussion you find an editing box which allows you to take part in the discussion.

Q: How can I add a discussion to a group?
A: Be sure you are already a member of the group. At the left of the page you see a button "Group discussion". You are now redirected to a new page where you can add a new discussion.

Q: I did the steps above but still can't post a message.
A: Be sure you are logged in. On this wiki look at the right upper corner. At the portal, look at the right in the green bread. Different parts of the infrastructure seems to have different logins and it looks as if the portal sometimes log you out for some reason. Maybe a timeout.

Q: How can I quickly find out if there are new postings in the groups I joined?
A: Have a look at your home page http://campus.ftacademy.org/community/ There you see a box latest discussions. However I didn't find yet how to select only the groups you joined. To be continued.

Q: Can I get mails of all the new posts in a group?
A: I don't know yet. To be continued

Q: Can I post a message in a group by email?
A: As far as I can see not.

Q: Can I get RSS feeds with the new posts in a group?
A: Almost. You can have a RSS feed with the latest posts in a group. Look for the button "Subscribe to feed" in the left pane on the screen and add the feed to your favorite RSS reader.

Q: How can I navigate through the groups.
A: Within a group you can go to top with all discussion by clicking on "Group discussion" right below the green beam. The only way to go to all your groups I found is by pushing "Home".
